When the T8 typhoon signal is raised, most businesses close and flights are cancelled. However, operations don't depend solely on signal number. Crosswind direction matters more, particularly southeasterly winds through Lantau's mountain gaps. Even when T8 is lowered to T3, crosswinds may still exceed aircraft limits, causing continued delays.

When is the smoothest time to fly from Hong Kong?

Late autumn (October-November) and spring (March-May) offer the most stable conditions. Typhoon season runs June through November with peak risk August-September.
